Robert Distler

Odessa is proud to present our new rider Robert Distler.

Distler, from Gilbert Arizona is known as a stylish and creative FMX rider, although he also rides BMX and enjoys the skateboarding scene.  A household name in FMX he likes the creativity of BMX and tries to incorporate the style into his riding.

He started young, with his dad attaching training wheeels to a 50cc dirtbike when he was two and a half and he spent the day doing laps of the house whilst still in nappys!

The training wheels came off at the age of 4 and the passion for the flair of BMX grew.  Building jumps and practising tricks led him to merging FMX with BMX style tricks and helped elevate the sport to the popularity of today.

He received national coverage when he suffered critical injuries at Galmas Sand Dunes when he overshot a technical bowl-to-bowl jump, landing on the up side of the next dune. The impact caused this neck to hit the handlebar so hard that the trachea was completely severed.

Robert was in surgery for over 7 hours where the surgeons were able to fix the trachea and oesophagus. As for permanent injury, it looks like he only lost one vocal cord leaving him with what he calls a "phone sex operator voice"!

A recognised legend of the sport he has been riding for 12 years but took some time off for 3 years to become a hairdresser! Though after some reassessment has decided to focus solely on FMX and has pushed himself further and developed the back flip into his riding style.

He is now loving life riding a massive tour with FMX shows booked in stadiums all over America this coming year, and is appearing next riding the halftime show in Motocross at the Angel Stadium - Anaheim CA on January 23rd.
